Just a note of prayer for Shari. We had the opportunity to work together last year on behalf of the YMCA. It was a brief but rewarding experience and my thoughts are with her and loved ones. I belive prayer makes a difference.

It was so great to see Shari’s friends and colleagues come together in force today at Union Square in NYC today to show support for Shari and bring so much awareness to the important cause of organ donation. I learned today that it is not enough to simply check the box on your drivers license to donate your organs. You need to register in your state of residence. In New York, you need to enroll in the registry at: http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/donor/agreement.htm. All our love to Shari and her family and best wishes for a speedy recovery!

Is she unable to accept a living donor transplant? My mother was days away from dying back in 2001 and when no liver was available my sister opted to donate part of hers. The surgery was a success and both recovered fine. Typically it has to be a family member or close friend, and some hospitals would not do the surgery, but if nothing else is possible, could this be an alternative?

All of my best wishes. Our family has been there.

Susan B.

Just to clarify, Shari cannot receive a living donor transplant. She needs a complete liver transplant, either type A or type 0 blood type.

What a tragic situation for this young women Shari. Can you be a live doner and take a piece of someone elses liver? My thoughts are with Shari and her family.

I went to college with Shari and since I heard of this terrible news she has been in my thoughts and I have spread the word to as many people that I know in Philadelphia. Question: Can she be transported to Philadelphia if they could find her a liver here? Shari, I'm thinking of you and your family and know you will make it through this.

I do not know Shari but she sounds like a remarkable young woman. A colleague of mine at Citi-Habitats shared her story with everyone in the firm and I pray she receives the help she needs. I am B+ unfortunately, but will also pass on the information to everyone on my contact list in hopes someone can respond. My prayers are with her and her loved ones.
